Psssh... Want to know the secert to getting beautiful wedding photos and keeping your day stress-free as possible?

I'VE GOT YOU.

After photographing weddings for over 10 years (starting all the way back in my college co-op days ), I’ve seen trends come and go, and watched the wedding industry grow and evolve year after year.

But through it all, there are a few things that never change — simple, helpful tips that can make your day feel more relaxed and help you get those stunning, meaningful images you’ll look back on forever.

So… here are my top 5 tips to help you do exactly that.

1. Prep Your Details Ahead of Time

If you’re doing getting ready photos, have your details ready before your photographer arrives — things like your dress, shoes, rings, tie, cufflinks, invitations, perfume, etc.

This saves time and allows for more candid, fun moments with your wedding party instead of scrambling to gather items. Less stress = better photos.

2. Have a Photo List Ready

Family photos can get chaotic fast and you don't want to look back at your gallery and go " OH NO we missed the photo with Grandma" cause of how fast the day goes.

Having a family shot list or important people list keeps things running smoothly and ensures no one important gets missed. It makes this part quick, organized, and way less overwhelming.

3. BUILD A TIMELINE THAT SUPPORTS YOUR NEEDS

Your timeline is everything!

Leaving enough time between moments (getting ready, ceremony, portraits) gives you space to breathe, stay present, and not feel rushed. It also gives your photographer the time to capture those in-between, emotional moments that end up being your favourites. If you don't have a wedding planner, don't hesitate to speak with your photographer to help you build this timeline. There is no need to be stressed on your wedding day!

P.s Keep in mind to though the benefit of a timeline is it is just a guideline if you run late its not the end of the world.

4.  SAY YES TO GOLDEN HOUR

Trust me on this one.

Golden hour photos are soft, glowy, and happy dance worthy always.

But beyond the pretty photos, it’s also a chance to step away for 10–15 minutes — just the two of you — to soak it all in.

You will not regret it.

A little private memory for the two of you to look back on.

5. TRUST YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

This one might seem obvious — like “well yeah, that’s why I hired them” — but on a wedding day, stress can creep in and make you second guess things.

So here’s your reminder: hold onto that trust you had when you chose your photographer. Trust their vision.

If your photographer says, “Okay, I know this looks like a random spot… but the light is AMAZING” — just go with it.

Some of the best photos come from the most unexpected places. We see light differently and know how to turn ordinary spots into something magical (yes… even beside a dumpster 👀).

At the end of the day, your photographer has your best intentions at heart and is there to tell your story in the most meaningful way possible. And honestly? That’s the most rewarding part of the job — at least it is for me.

BONUS TIP - BE PRESENT

The more you focus on each other and truly being in the moment, the better your photos will feel.

Your wedding day goes by so fast. You likely won’t get the chance to say hello or thank you to every single guest — and that’s okay. What matters most is that you fully enjoy the moments you’re in.

Walk down the aisle slowly, soaking it all in while smiling at your partner. Dance like nobody’s watching and don’t hold back.

Because those are the moments that bring out the real joy, the real love, and everything you’re hoping to see reflected in your photos.

MOST IMPORTANTLY...

At the end of the day, the most important thing to remember is this: it’s your wedding.

It will unfold in its own way — just as it’s meant to. And even if something doesn’t go exactly as planned, it will still be beautiful, meaningful, and full of moments you’ll never forget. And yes… your photos will still be amazing.

These tips are simply here to help make things feel a little more stress-free, relaxed, and joyful — so you can focus on what really matters.

With so much excitement and love,

Cassie
